A Lake Tahoe Home Renovation Breathes New Life into the Space

An open floor plan and ample guest accommodations make this home perfect for entertaining

A bay area-based couple found a home situated on the perfect location in Incline Village, Nevada on the banks of Lake Tahoe. With beach space and a dock, the home’s location is sought-after. However, the home itself was small and dated and was badly in need of an overhaul. Diana Vincent with High Camp Home and Bill Lorrain with High Sierra Customs can both attest to the small, cramped atmosphere of the space before it was gutted and renovated. “The challenge was reorganizing the existing space to open up the floorplan while creating sleeping space to host guests,” says Vincent.

The six-bedroom home is just over 3,000 square feet. The main level is home to the kitchen, great room, and one guest bed and bath. A master suite with an attached office, and the remaining guest bed and bathrooms are located on the upper level. “Every inch was reconfigured to accommodate the number of bedrooms the new owners wanted,” Vincent explains.

“We tore out the stairwell in the great room and adapted the space creating more useable area,” says Lorrain. “That made a big difference.” The sidewalls became the emphasis to overcome relatively low ceiling heights giving the entire home a light, airy ambiance. The galley kitchen was opened and equipped with a high end custom paneled refrigerator and dishwasher, and a commercial Wolf range was installed.

The home’s exterior was spruced up with new light fixtures and paint to give it fresh, curbside appeal. With the beach area just outside the door, indoor and outdoor entertaining is easy in the warm weather.

The result is a mountain classic abode with modern touches that are playful and fun. The newly hospitable interior really reflects the personalities of the owners,” Vincent points out. “They love to entertain, and we were able to achieve a home with plenty of open space to comfortably accommodate guests.”

The owners enjoy spending time in their new home during the summer—but are also discovering the joys of the lakeside all year-round. Vincent notes, “The husband particularly likes the office space in this house and gets away to work there more frequently.”

“The change really speaks volumes,” Lorrain says. “The home looks completely different than it did before the remodel and fits the owners’ preferences and lifestyle.” It really became a lovely, year-round retreat,” emphasizes Vincent.
