Accolades are presented biennially to recognize achievements in classical and traditional design in our region. The Jacques Benedict awards encourage and support regional cultural development by promoting the conviction that the universal language of classic proportions and design will continue to add to our culture, built environment, and environmental consciousness. The awards, previously known as the Robert & Judi Newman Awards, honor Jacques Benedict (1879-1947). Benedict was an esteemed early 20th century architect, a graduate of the Êcole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, who designed nearly 80 Beaux Arts style buildings in the Rocky Mountain Region. His renowned work includes The Washington Park Boating Pavilion, the George Cranmer House, Richthofen Castle (south wing), and Holy Ghost Catholic Church.

Benedict was a prolific designer of homes, churches, and academic and public buildings. Today, many of Benedict’s beautiful structures are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Commemorating his legacy, the Jacques Benedict awards recognize today’s contemporary architects, interior designers, builders, craftsman, artisans, students, and patrons whose work displays the same expression of excellence in the classical tradition.
