Capturing and Sharing Life’s Details

Photography that illuminates the ordinary and makes it extraordinary

Rachael Hodson has had a camera in her hand—or at least nearby since her high school years. A former competitive skier and outdoor enthusiast, Hodson’s nature photos are some of her favorites to shoot. “I love everything outdoors,” she says. “So often, I stop, look around, and see just the perfect thing to photograph.” Always at the ready, Hodson takes a camera with her almost everywhere she goes.

Hodson lives in the Utah Rocky Mountains with her husband and their two boys they raised at the base of Little Cottonwood Canyon with the Wasatch as their backyard playground. She says, “I am happily busy, and my life revolves around God, family, books, music, our dog, and my cameras.”  Her boys play ice hockey, so she has enjoyed the opportunity to photograph their teams in action. She particularly loves photographing skiing, given her experience with the sport.

Part of Hodson’s zest for life includes photographing people, nature, and places. “I sometimes see things that others miss,” she explains. “Sharing a new perspective and a connection to the outdoors through my pictures is really important to me.” She has an uncanny knack for capturing images that are stunning in their “everydayness,” highlighting how much we can miss if we don’t take the chance to closely observe. One of her website categories is entitled, “Everything Else I See,” for those photos inspired by random beauty.

Hodson’s photographs have been featured in print publications. While photography has been her hobby, she has dedicated 2024 to the steps required to take her business to the next level. That includes sharing her talent in new ways while continuing to build her already substantial portfolio. “It’s time I dedicate myself to what I’m passionate about. I’d love to pay my husband back for all the years he’s supported my hobby,” she explains.

Hodson shoots in color and black and white, and her photos are exquisitely and intentionally composed, enabling the viewer to take a meaningful deep dive into the image subject. The beauty is in the detail in every shot. The quote, “I walk, I look, I see, I stop, I photograph,” by Leon Levinstein perfectly describes her approach.
